Why flip a coin at all
A coin flip is the fastest way to end a two-way stalemate, and it does something a discussion cannot: it removes responsibility for the outcome. Nobody has to justify the decision afterwards. There is also the well-known trick of noticing how you feel while the coin is in the air — if you are quietly hoping for tails, you have your answer without needing the result.
Fairness
A real coin is not perfectly fair; the way it is flipped and caught biases the outcome slightly. This wheel has no such physics. Each side is drawn with equal probability from the browser's cryptographic random source, and past flips have no influence on the next one — a run of five heads does not make tails any more likely.
Beyond heads and tails
- Add a third slice for a three-way call
- Weight one side if you want a deliberate bias
- Use the tally to run a best-of-three or best-of-five
